I feel a bit abashed at tooting my own horn, but if I don&#8217;t do it, then who will? \u00a0Nothing much happens to an author on the official pub date: \u00a0the reviews have already started (good ones came in last Sunday from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/books\/article\/Why-I-Read-The-Serious-Pleasure-of-Books-by-5112457.php\"><em>San Francisco Chronicle<\/em><\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/arts\/books\/2014\/01\/04\/review-why-read-the-serious-pleasure-books-wendy-lesser\/tquLYsCkf1dGEPrCJeyV0H\/story.html\"><em>Boston Globe<\/em><\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/entertainment\/books\/20140104-book-review-why-i-read-the-serious-pleasure-of-books-by-wendy-lesser.ece\"><em>Dallas Morning News<\/em><\/a>), and the readings have yet to commence. \u00a0So I am celebrating January 7 in my own way, by telling you about this new book, my tenth, which happens to be on a favorite subject of mine. \u00a0You can sample the introductory chapter at today&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2014\/01\/07\/why-read-books_n_4549783.html?utm_hp_ref=books\">Huffington Post<\/a>, and maybe you&#8217;ll want to buy the whole thing\u2014at your local bookstore, I hope, if such a thing still exists near you, and otherwise from one of the many online sources. \u00a0Enjoy!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is just to let you know that my new book, Why I Read: The Serious Pleasure of Books, is out today from Farrar, Straus &amp; Giroux.
